What I’ve Observed Helping Hundreds of Massachusetts Buyers

After helping more than 200 buyers and sellers throughout Southern New Hampshire, including many relocating from Massachusetts, I’ve noticed several patterns.

One of the biggest surprises is that taxes are rarely the deciding factor.

Property taxes are often the first question buyers ask about. However, after they begin exploring communities and neighborhoods, most become much more focused on lifestyle, commute times, schools, outdoor recreation, and finding the right home for their family.

The families who choose communities that fit their lifestyle tend to be the ones who tell me later that moving to New Hampshire was one of the best decisions they’ve made.

Many people assume that because property tax rates can be higher in New Hampshire, homeownership automatically becomes more expensive.

The reality is more nuanced.

When evaluating a move, I encourage buyers to consider the entire financial picture, including:

For Buyers Commuting North of Boston

Many of my clients who work north of Boston focus on:

Salem -  Atkinson

Windham  -  Hampstead

Londonderry  -  Derry

These communities offer convenient access to Interstate 93, strong local amenities, and a variety of housing options.

For Buyers Commuting West of Boston

For buyers traveling toward Lowell, Burlington, or western portions of Greater Boston, communities such as:

Nashua & Merrimack 

which often provide excellent commuting options.

Communities such as Salem, Nashua, Londonderry, and Merrimack offer many of the conveniences people are accustomed to while maintaining a less congested feel.

What town should I move to?

There is no single best answer.

The right town depends on your commute, budget, schools, hobbies, and lifestyle preferences. This is one of the reasons I encourage buyers to spend time exploring several communities before making a decision.
